Our story begins here!
We're thrilled to welcome you to the official Splital blog, a space where we'll share insights, app updates, practical tips to get the most out of Splital, and personal stories about navigating both individual and shared finances.
How it all started
The idea behind Splital was born in late 2023 during an unforgettable trip across Asia. While exploring Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam, we encountered a small but frustrating problem: our usual app for splitting expenses wasn't working as expected. We tried several alternatives, but none truly met our needs. In the end, we picked a random app just to survive the trip, but that sparked a question: What if we built our own?
Once we returned home, we jumped right into it. We sketched ideas, brainstormed features, and wrote the first lines of code. After a couple of months of hard work, we had a basic prototype ready, just in time for a weekend getaway to Rome. It wasn't polished, it wasn't fancy, but it did exactly what we needed. Most importantly, it was ours, something we could shape however we wanted.
At first, Splital was just a personal tool. But over time, we began to wonder: Could this help other people too? That question led us to take a leap of faith, and today we're officially launching Splital to the world. It's still early, and we know there's a lot of work ahead. But we believe in what we've built, and we're committed to improving it every single day based on how you use it and what you tell us.
Behind the name and the logo
Choosing the right name was an adventure in itself. We had been thinking about it ever since the idea first came to life, but finding the perfect name was far from easy! About a month before the official release, we were on a train to Bardonecchia, a small mountain town near Turin, brainstorming name ideas when suddenly, Splital came to us. The name is inspired by the word split, of course. It's short, simple, easy to remember, and it felt like the perfect fit for what we were building.
The logo wasn't an easy task either. We're not professional designers, so we started with logo generators, but none of the options resonated with us. For a while, we considered using a simple "S" from the name Splital, but we weren't fully convinced.
Then the idea hit us, what about an elephant? It would be a subtle nod to Thailand, where the idea for Splital first took shape. Beyond that, elephants symbolize strength, wisdom, and community, values that reflect what we want Splital to stand for.
What we're building and where we're going
Splital helps you track and split expenses, whether you're planning a trip, sharing costs with roommates, managing a household budget, or simply keeping your personal finances organized. Right now, the app covers the essentials: create a group, add expenses, and see who owes what. Simple, clear, no clutter.
But we have a long list of features we're excited to build. We want to add expense categories, spending stats, image attachments, better search, and much more. We're two developers with a clear vision: to make Splital the best possible app for managing shared and personal expenses.
Every update, every improvement, every bug fix will be driven by one thing: your feedback. We built an easy way for you to send suggestions directly from the app, and we read every single message.
This is a project we care about deeply, and we plan to keep working on it for a long time.
Be part of our growing community
We invite you to explore the app, share your thoughts, and be part of the Splital community. We love hearing your suggestions and learning how Splital can simplify your daily life.
Thanks for being here from the very beginning. We're just getting started, and we're so excited to have you with us.
