We’re thrilled to welcome you to the official Splital blog, a space where we’ll share insights, app updates, practical tips to get the most out of Splital, and personal stories about navigating both individual and shared finances.
Our journey began in late 2023 during an unforgettable trip across Asia. While exploring Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam, we encountered a small but frustrating problem: our usual app for splitting expenses wasn’t cutting it anymore. We tried several alternatives, but none truly met our needs. In the end, we picked a random app just to survive the trip, but that sparked an idea: What if we built our own?
Once we returned home, we jumped right into it. We sketched ideas, brainstormed features, and wrote the first lines of code. After a couple of months of hard work, we had a basic prototype ready, just in time for a weekend getaway to Rome. It wasn’t polished, it wasn’t fancy, but it did exactly what we needed. Most importantly, it was ours, something we could shape however we wanted.
At first, Splital was just a personal tool. But over time, we began to wonder: Could this help other people too? That question led us to take a leap of faith. In May 2024, we officially launched Splital to the world. It didn’t get much attention at first, but we kept improving it, refining features, and fixing bugs. Slowly, messages from users started arriving with suggestions, feedback, and feature requests. That direct connection with our users has been incredibly motivating, and it pushes us every day to build something truly useful.
Choosing the right name was an adventure in itself. We had been thinking about it ever since the idea first came to life, but finding the perfect name was far from easy! About a month before the official release, we were on a train to Bardonecchia, a small mountain town near Turin, brainstorming name ideas when suddenly, Splital came to us. The name is inspired by the word split, of course. It’s short, simple, easy to remember, and it felt like the perfect fit for what we were building.
The logo wasn’t an easy task either. We’re not professional designers, so we started with logo generators, but none of the options resonated with us. For a while, we considered using a simple “S” from the name Splital, but we weren’t fully convinced.
Then the idea hit us, what about an elephant? It would be a subtle nod to Thailand, where the idea for Splital first took shape. Beyond that, elephants symbolize strength, wisdom, and community, values that reflect what we want Splital to stand for.
Today, Splital makes it easy to track and split expenses, whether you’re planning a trip, sharing costs with roommates, managing a household budget, or simply keeping your personal finances organized. We’re proud to say that we’ve reached over 50,000 users worldwide, and that number continues to grow every day!
Your support means the world to us. It confirms that Splital is truly helping people simplify and organize their shared and personal expenses. But we’re just getting started, we’re committed to continuously improving Splital, and your feedback is a crucial part of that journey. That’s why we built an easy way for users to send feedback or suggest features directly from the app.
Soon, we’ll introduce a way for you to book a call with us. It’ll be a great opportunity to chat, share ideas, and tell us what’s working, what’s not, and what you’d love to improve. Together, we can keep shaping Splital into the app you really need.
We invite you to explore the app, share your thoughts, and be part of the Splital community. We love hearing your suggestions and learning how Splital helps simplify your daily life.
Thanks for being part of our mission to make managing money simpler, clearer, and stress-free.
We’re just at the beginning, and we’re so excited to have you with us for this journey.
Warmly,
Maria & Maurizio
